    Was going to make the same guess - we never had one in our house, but my mother used to talk about the samovar in her home as a child....and the adults drinking tea with a sugar cube between their teeth.

    My mother has one from Tsar days. Mine was given to me and is from the Soviet era. I've never drunk tea from one.
