Day 270 - Honey cake

Kitchen duty today, and it's a lenten day (Elevation of the Cross) so I didn't have a clue what I was going to bake since I couldn't use eggs or dairy. Finally I settled for honey, cinnamon and nutmeg cake which is the easiest cake in the world to make, and quick too.

We made piroshki as always. Today's selection was rice and mushroom, cabbage and onion, and potato - both fried and baked, as well as the sweet ones with apple and dusted with sugar. These are the baked ones, a slightly healthier choice (although they all usually give me heartburn). You definitely couldn't live on these for very long, but they're quite good hot once in a while.

I took a picture of my son's god-daughter because I love her intensely focussed expression.

Day 255 - Retro

We had lunch at Retro in Brunswick Street for Mr 19's namesday (St Alexander Nevsky). Retro has a Fitzroy flavour - a little like a colourful Salvos.

Day 220 - Market colours

Market day, and such a beautiful, sunny day. The kind of day that makes you say, 'What a beautiful day!' so often that you start telling yourself to shut up. This photo captures the colours of the sweet shop; pity about the reflection of the lights in the glass.
This is where we get our organic, hormone-free chicken. Must try the crocodile one day.

Here is where we buy nuts and also fantastic bread which you can't see from this window.

Later in the day we ended up at Brunetti's on Swanston Street having a flat savoury with prosciutto and chinotto. This is looking towards the city square.

This is looking the other way towards St Paul's Cathedral. Okay, so we also had a little icecream. I had Nocciola.

Day 104 - Friends for lunch

Well, obviously, this is not a photo of my friends. Would you believe, I had the camera ready to capture lunch with my dear friends, but they came and went, and the camera was left untouched. Put it down to engaging conversation with not a moment to think about anything else. After I had cleared the table, this was all that was left. Not to mention the memory of a lovely day.

Day 13 - Getting together with friends

There's nothing more pleasurable in life than getting together with good friends.

Day 11 - Mixing salad for lunch

Here I am mixing salad for lunch with family and friends. Another lovely day with warm weather, good food and company, laughter.

Day 10 - Drive up the mountain on the sunny day

Quite spontaneously this morning we decided to take advantage of the sunny weather and take a drive to the Dandenongs. Here are my sons about to enjoy lunch.
