Day 165 - Christening

Today my 18 year old son became godfather for the first time. His goddaughter is a gorgeous, happy and inquisitive little 6 month old girl. He was relieved after the service that he didn't drop her, and that she didn't throw up on him. I was relieved that he didn't drop her. And now he can call himself 'da Godfadda'.

  1. This is a great honour for your son. My 3 children were christened in the Greek Orthodox church so I am familiar with the the rituals and ceremony associated with this special event.

  2. He was pretty stoked at being asked. I suppose the Greeks do it similar to the Russians, the difference being how they actually do the water blessing. We immerse fully 3 times; it freaks some people out because it looks like the priest is trying to drown the baby. Do you immerse or sprinkle?

  3. The same - total immersion 3 times. Some babies take in their stride but others scream a lot.Probably depends on the age of the baby. Did Sophie cry much? She looks quite relaxed and very pretty.

  4. I know about the screamers. This little one was so happy, and only cried for about 10 seconds after being immersed. Look at her so unsuspecting just before her dip.
